Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy Help

Update my Microsoft 365 account to Exchange in Outlook (Windows)

Create a new Outlook profile and switch your Microsoft 365 account from IMAP or POP to Exchange settings.

If you're using IMAP, export your calendars or contacts so your data stays connected with your email and can be recovered. Your email and folders are already synced to the server and won't need to be exported. If you're using POP, you don't need to export and can skip to Step 2: Create a new Outlook profile.

Step 1: Export calendar or contacts

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Go to your Calendar Button Calendar to export your calendar or Contacts Button Contacts to export your contacts.
  3. In the upper-left corner, select File.
    File menu from Contacts
  4. Select Open & Export > Import/Export.
Open & Export in left panel and Import/Export button
  5. Select Export to a file > Next.
Under Choose an action to perform, Export to a file option
  6. Select Outlook Data File (.pst) > Next.
  7. Under your email account, your Calendar or your Contacts will be selected. Make sure the checkbox next to Include subfolders is also selected, and then select Next.
Check box next to Include subfolders above next button
  8. Note: You can only export one type at a time, so you'll need to repeat these steps to export both contacts and calendars.

  9. Select Browse.
  10. Choose where you want to save the backup file, change the file name, and then select OK.
  11. Select Finish.
  12. You have the option to password protect the backup file. If you want to skip this, select OK.

Repeat these steps so that you've backed up both your contacts and your calendar. You'll then be ready to create a new Outlook profile.

Step 2: Create a new Outlook profile

Download the Outlook Setup Assistant to automatically create a new profile.

Step 3: Import calendar or contacts

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Go to your Calendar Button Calendar to import your calendar or Contacts Button Contacts to import your contacts.
  3. In the upper-left corner, go to File.
File menu to the left of Home menu
  4. Select Open & Export > Import/Export.
Open & Export in left panel and Import/Export button
  5. Select Import from another program or file > Next.
Under Choose an action to perform, Import from another program or file option
  6. Select Outlook Data File (.pst) > Next.
  7. Select Browse, find and select your backup file, and select Open. Then select Next.
  8. Select Outlook Data File and select your Calendar or Contacts. Select Import items into the current folder, and then select Finish.
Under Choose an action to perform, Import from another program or file option

Repeat these steps until you've imported both your contacts and your calendar. Your data is now on the Exchange server!

Note: If you had multiple email accounts in Outlook, you'll need to add them again. Select File > Add Account and follow the prompts shown.
