How do you scan for malware?

I rely on using WordPress plugins to help find malware, however sometimes the site is offline.  If I'm hosting the site then I have software on my server I can use to run a scan. But when someone else is hosting the site, I'd like to be able to upload a PHP script that would print out a list of suspect files I can investigate. Does anyone have one they can recommend?

You can use Sucuri's website checking tool at the link below

You can also use their WP plugin to protect your WP websites.

Thanks for the suggestion @crea8ivedev. Sucuri is fantastic. I was hoping for a tool that I could run when WordPress is offline due to malware. Something I could use in a regular type of shared hosting account where I don't have access to tools I might normally run if I had access through SSH, like the ability to use grep to search for particular malware signatures. Tools or php scripts that would function similar to security plugins, but without needing WordPress to be operational.

Cheers!
